Our Home Away from Home

Ah yes, the RV.  Isn't she lovely?

She doesn't have a name yet.  You might have to help me on that one.

It has everything, including the kitchen sink.  It's 23 feet long with a slide out, so there so much more room than the Spiritmobile.  And...tall people don't have to duck their heads when they walk through the cab.   But it's still small enough to be the perfect cocoon to snuggle into when Rod's on the trail.

Rod has gone from end to end checking and maintaining every system onboard.  We bought it used, but there wasn't anything to fix.  He's doing a few upgrades...replacing all the coach lights with LED lights,  installing 2 solar panels on the roof and putting in a gas oven.

I'm a bit old school, I wanted the oven.  The rig has a convection microwave that does everything - broil, grill, even bake a loaf of bread.  That requires shore power or turning on the generator which loudly advertises that you are using the microwave.  So when I want to make a batch of cookies on some mountaintop in Tennessee, I can just pop them into the oven.  Wouldn't want to startle those bears or hikers with any loud noises.

Actually right now we're planning & packing for 3 trips at once.  We're packing the car and boats for the drive to Florida.  Everything else that Fran will need for the next year goes into the RV.  Then to top it all off, Rod's planning his hike.

With the assistance of our son and his wife, we have a sweet plan for getting all the vehicles and boats to Florida.  When we leave on November 30, we'll drive the car with boats on top.  We'll park the car in northern Florida and start paddling south.  Our son will meet us in Key West with the RV and car in late February.  We'll hang out in the sunshine for a bit together before they drive the car (with boats on top) back to Oregon.  It's a win-win situation.  Our son gets a free vacation and we don't have to figure out how to get the boats on the RV.  Did I say that the RV was tall?
