We are now seven days behind the itinerary. We might not make that time up and may have to skip some miles down the road to get back on track at Cayo Costa.
While I acknowledge that possibility, I am hoping somehow we catch up.
Last night when I prepared the charts for today I mapped out several options depending on how far we might get.

We faced a 10 mph hour headwind at times but the morning paddle to Cedar Key was pretty straightforward. We stopped for water and lunch at the far east end of town in a pleasant park (and chatted with a family from Chengdu China, which we had visited ten years ago). Cedar Key would make a great destination to rent a room for a few days and go out on day paddles. There are lots of little islands to explore - it is a bit like a miniature San Juans only warmer.
Then we got serious about busting some miles. The water turned to glass and we maintained 4.2 mph for two hours, and then 3.8 for another hour. We were pretty exhausted but after 22 miles we made up a full day.
