Deep Gap

Some stayed in Hot Springs 2 days, some 3, one was not sure but guessed it was 5. Everyone stayed longer than expected because it is a great trail town. There isn't much to the town except the outfitter, restaurants, hostels, laundry, clinic and grocery stores.  Everything is perfect for thru hikers and close together.

I'm avoiding the shelters.  Not that I have actually stayed in one yet, but the Noro virus wrecked havoc two weeks ago. The vomiting and explosive diarrhea of so many hikers simultaneously was too frequent for a one seat privy at the shelters so it quickly became very gross and the sickness was widespread. It has been cleaned up and disinfected but the shelters are empty as we all opt for tenting remotely.

Spirit spent a nice restful time in the hot springs.  We considered the two of us but I have a partially detached big toenail that I am trying to keep clean and dry to avoid fungus, so she went with some other women.

We joined Elmer's B&B for a nice family style breakfast. Six eggs, grits, granola, nine biscuits, juice and coffee. You just gotta love the thru hiker appetite. I'm at my hiking weight now so do not want to lose any more weight.

I hiked out at noon, stopping to chat on the way out.  Hot Springs is a vortex that pulls you in and is hard to leave.

The walk out of Hot Springs is a nice river walk, with pretty flowers and bearded iris, and then slowly climbs back into the mountains giving great views of town. The wind reversed and clouds appeared at sunset so the weather changes tomorrow, likely wet.

Short 12.8 miles to Deep Gap, with both shin and ankle wrapped so no problems.
